LDC Announces Research Partnership To Develop Fish Feed

Louis Dreyfus Company has announced that it has entered into a research partnership with Barramundi Asia and Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL) to develop fish feed for aquaculture purposes.

The project aims to formulate fish feed for commercial farming of Barramundi fish or the Asian sea bass.

In November 2019, LDC and Temasek Lifesciences Accelerator signed a memorandum of understanding to support the commercialisation of promising technologies for the advancement of agri-food innovation in Asia.

The tripartite agreement is the first collaboration to result from this memorandum of understanding, LDC said in its statement.

CEO of TLL and TLA, Peter Chia, said, "We believe that through this partnership, we will be able to significantly enhance the economic equation of fish farming through better genetics, improved feed, logistics, and optimised farming protocol to help pave the way for Barramundi to become the species of choice for the tropics."

The Programme

The research programme will involve developing and testing better quality fish feed made from sustainable and healthy ingredients.

Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory will lead the research and development component of the programme, while Barramundi Asia will provide access to its aquaculture farms and nurseries for trials.

Head of LDC’s South and Southeast Asia Region, Thomas Couteaudier, commented, "Leveraging LDC’s commercial and logistics expertise, and presence across the global food, feed, and ingredients value chain, we look forward to contributing to the realisation of innovative and sustainable solutions to help meet rapidly growing consumer demand for fish protein as a healthy meat alternative."
