Lidl Plans New Regional Distribution Centre In East Devon

Lidl’s is set to build its 12th Regional Distribution Centre in the UK in East Devon, and create up to 500 new jobs in the area.

According to RetailGazette.co.uk, the proposed new centre is part of the German discounter’s ongoing expansion plans in the UK, where it aims to double the number of its existing stores.

If the East Devon District Council grants permission for the distribution centre, work could start on the site shortly after, with a view to have it in operation by September 2017.

The planned warehouse design features maximized solar gain to reduce light energy consumption at the site, as well as low energy lighting, and a high efficiency heating plan running a Refrigeration Waste Heat Recovery System, says RetailGazette.co.uk

"It’s incredibly encouraging that our sales growth is consistently outperforming the market, but this requires a solid infrastructure that enables us to cope with growing customer demand," commented Lidl UK Head of Warehouse Expansion, Adrienne Howells.

"A new regional distribution centre in East Devon will help to alleviate pressure on our other warehouses, which are currently servicing the region, and will support new stores that we hope to open across the South West in the coming years."
