Ornua Moves Mozzarella Production After Fire At Spanish Facility

Irish dairy firm Ornua has announced that its mozzarella production facility at Ornua Ingredientes España, in the Spanish city of Avila, has been 'severely damaged' by fire.

As a result, the company is temporarily moving cheese production to its European and North American manufacturing bases, to meet immediate product requirements.

Ornua, which manufactures brands such as Kerrygold butter and Dubliner cheese, says that local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, and no one was injured in the incident.

The facility employs 120 full and part-time staff.

Company Growth

In 2016, Ornua reported that turnover rose by 9.1% to €1.75 billion. These figures were boosted by record global retail sales of Kerrygold, which reached €900 million last year, with a 20% volume growth in the United States.
