Spain’s DIA To Build New Logistics Centre In Toledo

Spanish retailer DIA has announced plans to build a new logistics centre in Illescas in the Toledo province.

The retailer has teamed up with Aquila Capital and Cushman & Wakefield for the project which will see an investment of approximately €50 million.

Other collaborators include Tewis Smart, a company specialising in refrigeration installation and the city council of Illescas.

Aquila Capital is funding the project in the second phase of Spain’s first eco-industrial park, Iberum Central Platform, DIA added.

The new facility, spread across an area of 127,000 square metres including a 68,000 square metre warehouse, will also be the company’s largest logistics platform in Spain.

It will supply goods to around 500 shops located throughout the Community of Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León.

Environmental Standards

The retailer will adhere to strict environmental standards during the construction of the facility and install solar panels to ensure that the building is self-sufficient in meeting its energy requirements.

The project is an ’essential step’ in DIA’s transformation process and will help in establishing a solid logistics network for fulfilling its current and future supply needs.

The new warehouse is expected to commence operations in the first quarter of 2022.

The retailer will relocate the production carried out in its warehouses in Arroyomolinos and Mejorada del Campo in the province of Madrid, and Azuqueca de Henares in Guadalajara to the new facility.

As a result, employees of the three warehouses will be transferred to Illescas, the company said.
