Veganz Threatens To Sue Edeka Over Unpaid Bills

German vegan food supplier Veganz has threatened to sue retailer Edeka over unpaid bills allegedly worth roughly €2.5 million, according to Lebensmittel Zeitung.

Two weeks ago, the company had threatened to cut off Edeka if it did not raise prices to pay the debt.

"We want to continue working with Edeka, but we also want them to comply with the contract," said Jan Bredack, Veganz founder, to the publication. The retailer claims that it has paid any outstanding debts to Veganz, and that it wants to keep on working with them.

This would be the second lawsuit launched recently by a bio or vegan supplier, after Alnatura sued distributor DM a few months ago.

Edeka may want to continue working with Veganz due to its growing popularity with other supermarkets and drugstores. Its products are already available at eight different retailers in Germany and at Albert Heijn in the Netherlands.

The company also plans to supply 21 items to Kaufland, and Edeka's rival Rewe has recently shown interest in its products.
