WITRON Optimises Dry Assortment Supply Chain For Plus Retail B.V.
Dutch food retailer Plus Retail B.V. is optimising its dry assortment supply chain. The project is being designed and executed by the Parkstein-based general contractor WITRON Logistik + Informatik GmbH.
It involves the construction of a new national distribution centre in the city of Oss, in the centre of the Netherlands.
All store orders in the facility will be processed centrally using sustainable and leading-edge logistics systems precisely linked with one another.
The warehouse logistics processes will switch from conventional operations to a completely automated system.
From November 2022, the 44,000 square-metre facility will supply 270 Plus stores across the country with 12,000 different items in the dry goods category.
On a peak day, the fully and semi-automatic WITRON systems OPM (Order Picking Machinery) with 20 COM machines, DPS (Dynamic Picking System) with 12 workstations, and CPS (Car Picking System) will pick and consolidate more than 410,000 cases into roll containers and totes in a store-friendly and error-free manner.
A mechanised pallet warehouse with 26,800 storage locations, a tray warehouse with 357,000 storage locations, and a tote warehouse with 27,500 tote locations are also being integrated into the facility.
Dynamic conveyor system elements from WITRON’s subsidiary FAS and the intelligent WITRON software portal 4.0 will ensure a well-connected material flow in terms of products and data.
In 2019, the Utrecht-headquartered Plus Retail B.V. generated sales worth €2.61 billion, while it employs 19,000 staff members.
It has a market share of 6.5% in the Netherlands and sells its products through its retail entrepreneurs and online portal.
