Carrefour Brasil Launches Online Grocery Shopping In São Paulo

Carrefour Brasil Group is reported to be launching an online shopping and rewards platform in the city of São Paulo.

The Brazilian unit of French retailer Carrefour will offer the services through a new mobile application 'Meu Carrefour', which will initially cover around 200 neighbourhoods in São Paulo, reports Reuters.

Company executives told reporters that online food orders will be shipped to buyers’ homes from a distribution centre in Sao Paulo.

They added that the project will be expanded if the pilot is successful.

Company Growth

Carrefour Brasil reported a net profit of R$299 million (€79.3 million) in the second quarter of 2017, representing a drop of 3.4%.

However, net revenue grew by 7.9% year on year to R$12.29 billion (€3.26 billion), with capital expenditure of R$507 million (+20.5%), 42% of which was directed at opening new stores.

The retailer also made a strong start when it launched on the Brazilian Stock Exchange in July, with a five billion reais IPO.

Last month, Noël Prioux was appointed as the new CEO of Carrefour Brasil, replacing Charles André Pierre Desmartis. The appointment was part of a larger reorganisation by Carrefour Group, which included the creation of a new group executive committee.
