Carrefour Extends Blockchain Technology To Rocamadour Cheese

Retail giant Carrefour has announced that it has introduced blockchain technology to trace the origin of its Rocamadour cheese.

It is the first cheese and the eighth product in the Carrefour Quality Line to implement blockchain mapping.

Customers can access a wide range of information about the product's origin, production process, and its journey to the supermarket's shelves by scanning a QR code on the product's label with their smartphones.

It offers information about the producers' identity, the number of goats in their herd, how long they have been producing the cheese, and the number of people working for them.

Product Background

Rocamadour cheese acquired the protected designation of origin (PDO) status in 1996.

It is manufactured by six French farmhouse producers in their own farms.

The milk used in making the cheese comes from Alpine and Saanen dairy goat breeds, which are primarily fed on hay and cereal crops from the PDO region.

The cheese is produced and refined by dairy farmers before delivery to the Fermiers du Rocamadour cheese dairy in Alvignac in France for packaging.
