M&S To Introduce Phone Charging Facility In London Stores

UK retailer Marks & Spencer has announced that it will roll out phone charging facilities in association with ChargedUp, to eight of its outlets across London.

ChargedUp is the first start-up that has been selected for M&S and Founders Factory's accelerator programme.

An Essential Service

Founders Factory lead at Marks & Spencer, Daniel Himsworth, said, “Mobile phones are an essential part of today’s shopping experience and we all know how frustrating a low battery is.

"The ChargedUp team has a very smart idea to solve the problem and keep shoppers fully charged.”

Next month, the retailer will install the units in its stores in Pantheon, White City, Bankside, Victoria Cardinal Place, Fenchurch Street, and Finsbury Pavement.

M&S Merchant Square Café and Waterside Simply Food have already installed the charging units.

A Game-Changer

ChargedUp’s founder and CEO Hugo Tilmouth, said, "As a startup, working with a brand like M&S not only gives us access to the best market insights, but we are incredibly happy that our ChargedUp battery stations will be in several stores next month - which is potentially game-changing for us ahead of our nationwide roll-out."

The company also provides power banks on rent to customers, and boasts a network of 250 vending stations across London.
