X5 Tests Electronic Shelf Labelling In Pyaterochka Outlets

Russia's X5 Retail Group is testing an electronic shelf labelling system in Pyaterochka stores to prevent losses incurred due to erroneous labels.

The pilot project is being carried out in seven stores in Dolgoprudny, where 58,000 electronic shelf labels have been added to cover almost 100% of the assortment.

The technology will also reduce label printing costs and improve customer experience, X5 said.

Electronic Labels

The electronic labels are displayed in three colours - white, black, and red - with red denoting products on promotion.

The prices are updated online with the help of a software that is integrated into X5's existing store IT architecture.

The labels are energy efficient and can last up to five years on a single battery, the retailer added.

Roll-Out Plan

The findings from this pilot project will determine the future roll-out plan of the technology to 15 Pyaterochka stores and 10 Perekrestok supermarkets before the end of 2019.

The retailer has already implemented more than 65,000 electronic shelf labels in three large-format Perekrestok supermarkets in St Petersburg, Stary Oskol, and Moscow.
