Lidl Ireland To Launch Reusable Fruit And Vegetables Bags

Lidl Ireland has announced plans to launch reusable bags for fruit and vegetables in all its 162 outlets across the country in September.

The 'Green Bags', priced at 99c a pair, will offer customers a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bags for purchasing fruit and vegetables, the retailer said.

A First In Ireland

Head of CSR at Lidl Ireland, Deirdre Ryan, commented, "We are delighted to be the first Irish retailer to introduce reusable bags for loose fruit and veg for our customers.

"We have already implemented several plastic waste reduction initiatives such as our recycling stations in stores, ending the sale of many single-use plastic items and the removal of unrecyclable black plastics from numerous categories across our range," he added.

The announcement comes a week after the retailer rolled out the 'Green Bags' in Belgium.

Other Initiatives

Lidl has pledged to reduce plastic packaging by 20% by 2022, and make the packaging of its own-brand products 100% recyclable by 2025.

The retail giant has also removed microbeads from all cosmetic and household ranges.
