  • CARTTEC is seeking to revolutionise the role of the shopping trolley with a series of groundbreaking technological innovations.

Headquartered in Spain, CARTTEC has been a leading name in retail equipment since its foundation in 2007, supplying a range of shopping trolleys and security systems to supermarket and hypermarket operators around the world.

Now, however, the company is stepping future with a series of innovations that are set to reshape how shoppers perceive the humble shopping trolley.

“For us, it’s important to have a one-to-one relationship with retailers, actively listening to them and seeking to meet their needs,” says Alberto Mohedano, CARTTEC chief executive. “We have been clear about this for many years – if the retailer is doing well, then we are doing well.”

    Autonomous Solutions

The first of the company’s innovations, JULIUSTEC, is a shopping cart boasting autonomous movement, which can ‘follow’ shoppers around the store thanks to state of the art tracking technology.

Requiring no physical interaction, JULIUSTEC is ideal for elderly or infirm shoppers, those in a wheelchair, or parents pushing a pram. The cart also uses an advanced three-dimensional space mapping system, to ensure that it doesn’t encounter obstructions on its journey.

Allied to this is JULIUSCART, which aims to simplify the shopping process by minimising the effort required to manoeuvre a heavy shopping cart around a store.

Using assisted driving technology, JULIUSCART enables smooth and effortless movement, even for shopping carts loaded with heavy items.

    Tracking Movement

Arguably the most impressive of CARTTEC’s new innovations is HORUS TEC, a platform that enables retailers to track the location of all shopping carts around the store, enabling store managers to better plan during busy periods, as well as providing information on the store’s ‘hot zones’.

HORUS TEC technology even tracks the movement of trolleys outside the store, assisting with better car park management.

“HORUS TEC offers a direct solution for better store management,” says Ignacio Lobera, co-managing director at the firm.

“The role of Big Data in the supermarket sector is going to explode in the coming years, and we are offering stores a solution that enables them to gain better control of their store operations.”

“These solutions also enable stores to grow their sales,” Mohedano adds. “On the one hand, the retailer is providing assistance to the shopper, but on the other, the shopper is likely to spend more time in that store as a result, and purchase more items.”
