Intermarché Continues Expansion In Portugal

French retailer Les Mousquetaires has opened its 245th store in Portugal, with a new Intermarché hypermarket located in Vila de Prado, in the district of Braga.

The 900 square metre outlet features the retailer's new store concept, which aims to combine elements of a traditional market with the modernity and innovation of today.

In the new commercial area consumers can enjoy services such as a cafeteria, a take-away food section with different daily menus based on traditional Portuguese cuisine, a tobacconist, and a petrol station.

Customers will have access to exclusive Intermarché own brands, as well a wide variety of food and non-food products, and fresh goods.

Last week, rival retailer Continente also opened a new hypermarket near Braga.

Expansion Plans

Meanwhile, the retail group has also reopened a refurbished Intermarché hypermarket in Cumeira.

The store includes a new area dedicated to organic products and healthy food, while the frozen food section has been enlarged. There are also new services such as a post pick-up point and a self-service laundry.

With the aim of reaching 294 stores by 2020, Intermarché committed to opening 63 stores from 2015 to 2020, investing €200 million in the process.
