Italian App Provides Cashback with Supermarket Purchases

Italian consumers can obtain cashback on supermarket purchases as part of a special summer promotion valid until 5 September.

The initiative has been launched by Ubiq Lab, a spin-off of the University of Parma, and is valid in all participating supermarkets, including Auchan, Carrefour, Coop, Esselunga, Famila, Lidl, PAM Panorama and Sigma).

T-Frutta is the first dedicated Italian app  (iOS and Android) allowing users to earn money every time they purchase brand products on offer on a given day and that are highlighted daily by the app. Every three weeks around 70 products from eight categories are on offer.

At the end of the purchase, consumers take a picture of the bill showing the product on promotion. After reading the data from the bill, the app automatically credits the amount saved to the consumer’s bank account, PayPal or on a check, for later use.

The app stands out from similar initiatives as the crediting of money is quick and consumers can spend it freely, without any constraints or obligations to a new expenditure or conversion to goods.
