Italian Wine Exports Increased By 3.3% In 2018: Study

Italian wine exports increased by 3.3% in value in 2018 compared to the previous year, reaching a high of more than €6.2 billion.

The findings emerges from an analysis by Osservatorio Qualivita Wine, based on Istat data for 2018.

Main Markets

Exports of 'Made in Italy' wine have grown in value in almost all main foreign markets, including France (+10.1%) and Germany (+4%), as well as the USA (+4%), which is the largest customer for Italian wines.

In terms of percentage growth, the best performance in 2018 was achieved in Poland (+23.3%), followed by Australia (+18.5%), although the presence of Italian wine in these markets remains limited.

More than half (61%) of Italian wine exports went to European countries, while the USA accounted for 31% of exports, and Asia 7%.

Despite the growth in value, exports of 'Made in Italy' wine decreased by 8.1% in volume in 2018 compared to 2017, the study found.
