Italian regional grocery retailer Gruppo Megamark is investing €45 million to expand its store network over the next three years.
Il Denaro reports that the Trani-based company is planning to open seven new stores in the Puglia region (taking the total to 507), and a new 30,000 square metre distribution centre in Caserta (Campania region).
Last year, Megamark achieved a 14.4% growth in turnover to €1.4 billion, according to Nielsen data. Like-for-like sales in the same period were up by 6.7%.
The year 2017 saw a healthy turnaround in sales at the group's supermarkets, with significant growth for organic products (+32.5%) and gluten-free products (+32.2%).
Gruppo Megamark operates 500 stores under the banners Supermercati Dok, A&O, Famila, Iperfamila, Supero, Sunrise and Sole365 in the southern Italian regions of Puglia, Calabria, Campania, Basilicata and Molise.
It is a member of Italian national grocery distribution group Selex, which is, in turn, part of European Marketing Distribution (EMD), a leading European retail buying alliance.
