Jerónimo Martins Polska Ranks Second On '500 List' Of Largest Companies

Polish supermarket chain Biedronka has announced that Jerónimo Martins Polska SA, who owns the supermarket chain, has ranked second in the '500 List' prepared by Polish daily newspaper, Rzeczpospolita.

The retailer added that this is the fifth time in a row that the company has come runner-up on the list, which features the largest companies in Poland, ranked according to the amount of revenue recorded the previous year (2017).

Last year, Jerónimo Martins Polska invested over PLN 1.5 billion in Poland and paid over PLN 460 million in income tax (CIT-8) for 2017.

Biedronka is also involved in social affairs - in the previous year, it spent over PLN 12.3 million on charitable activities.

Working Local

"At Biedronka, we have been focusing on Polish products and long-term cooperation with local producers for many years. We are investing in Poland, opening new stores, distribution centres and renovating current ones,” said Jarosław Sobczyk, board member and HR director at Jerónimo Martins Polska SA.

“At the same time, we are the largest private employer in Poland and we invest heavily in this area, raising salaries, providing a wide range of benefits and caring for the development of employees. We also support local communities and people in need, working closely with charitable organisations.

“We are happy that our activities have been appreciated,” he concluded.

Biedronka recently announced that it extended its range of goBIO organic products making more than 60 goBIO SKUs available to shoppers, following the addition of 40 new product lines.
