Kaufland Romania Launches New Mall-Style Retail Concept
Kaufland Romania has launched a new retail concept, opening its first store with a food court and an external shopping area, based on the idea of an open mall.
The first renovated shopping gallery is located at the Kaufland store on Barbu Văcărescu Street in Bucharest, and the concept will be gradually extended to other stores in the retailer's network.
Inside, the food court area will feature a wide selection of restaurants and cafes, such as Stradale, Mitzu Café, Salad Box, Noodle Pack, Thai Scoops and Tip Top. A new unit of US franchise Subway will also be opened soon.
Two non-food outlets are also located in this area - the Sensiblu pharmacy and the Xpress newsagent shop.
Outside the store, Kaufland has expanded its shopping galleries with modern, specially designed units, which will house tenant shops in the parking area.
The move is part of Kaufland's process of reinventing the shopping experience in Romania, with the desire of offering customers more than a hypermarket. Other recent initiatives include creating urban community gardens on the roof of its stores, and launching a pop-up summer shop in the spa resort of Sovata.
