Whole Foods To Pay Fine Over Labelling Errors

Whole Foods has been directed to conduct quarterly audits and pay a fine of $500,000 to New York City’s budget following the emergence of details that some of its products were inaccurately labelled and/or weighed, the Associated Press reports.

New York City officials carried out tests on 80 items in Whole Foods supermarkets and found erroneous weights printed on the selected items. Joint-CEOs of the grocer, John Mackey and Walter Robb, have conceded that errors were indeed made, and issued an online video apologising for the mistake.

Mackey and Robb also have said that media coverage of the matter has impacted sales at the retailer.

The agreed fine of $500,000 will “put this issue behind us,” said a company spokesperson.
