Leading Strawberry Producer Fresón De Palos Sees Volume Sales Up

The world's biggest strawberry producer, Fresón de Palos, reported sales of 70,000 tonnes last year, which is an increase in volume of 13 per cent.

According to efeagro.com, the growth was achieved practically in the same production area as the previous year, of approximately 1,100 hectares.

The company, which encompasses 150 partners and provides 5,000 jobs, reached sales of €115 million last year. Fresón de Palos de la Frontera (Huelva) is currently controlling 30 per cent of share of the Spanish strawberry market in the main retailers, according to figures from Nielsen.

The main countries of destination for Fresón de Palo strawberries are Germany, Italy, France, UK, Portugal, Poland, Netherlands, Czech Republic and Belgium.

Regarding 2015's campaign, Manuel Jesús Oliva, President of Fresón de Palos, commented, "As production normalised, prices did too and we completed a very long campaign, which while hard and atypical, we believe was satisfactory."
