Leading UK Retailers Get In Line For Apple Pay

Leading supermarkets such as Waitrose and Marks & Spencer will soon provide their UK customers with a new mobile payment option, Apple Pay.

This method of payment is set to transform mobile transactions when it launches in the UK, with breakthrough contactless payment technology.

For retailers, top privacy and security settings are paramount, meaning that when a customer adds a debit or credit card to Apple Pay on his/her iPhone, iPad or iWatch, the card details are not stored on the device, and instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned.

International Supermarket News reported that Waitrose’s IT director, Cheryl Millington, said, "We are delighted to offer our customers access to Apple Pay in all of our stores from launch. This convenient service will add to the ease and choice of payment options in Waitrose while providing a secure and private experience, and is very much part of the continued evolution of our in-store proposition.”

According to Apple, other well-known retailers such as Boots and Costa Coffee have also lined up in support of Apple Pay, which launches next month.

Meanwhile, the BBC has reported that most payments using the new Apple Pay system will be limited to £20 when it launches in the UK.
