Lidl Portugal Invests In New Logistics Facility In Santo Tirso

Lidl Portugal has announced plans to construct a new warehouse in Santo Tirso, in the north of the country, investing around €70 million in the venture.

Trade publication Distribuição Hoje reported that the new warehouse will cover 48,000 square metres and be located close to Lidl's existing warehouse in the area.

The facility will also be highly energy-efficient, with solar panels on the roof and 'intelligent lighting' systems powered by sensors.

The discounter is working with local suppliers on the construction of the new facility, which is estimated for completion next year.

Once completed, Lidl Portugal reported that that its supply capacity in northern Portugal will have increased from 77 stores to more than 100.

Increased Capacity

"This new warehouse reinforces our commitment to the country, our employees, suppliers, partners and customers," a Lidl spokesperson said.

"We will be able to reach more than 100 stores, increase the storage capacity to 55,000 pallets, and allow more efficient movement of merchandise, with more than 90 berths. With this investment, we intend to strengthen our promise of quality at the best price to all our stakeholders in the north of the country," the spokesperson added.
