Lidl Puts 'Express' Trial On Hold In Berlin

Lidl has said that it is putting the trial period for its new 'Lidl Express' click and collect format on hold in Germany.

Planet Retail reports that the concept has been paused indefinitely, and that the decision to do so may have had a part to play in the recent stepping down of chief executive Sven Seidel, who left the discounter earlier this month citing “different strategic business conceptions”. Jesper Hojer was announced as his replacement.

Lidl said that “after carrying out a comprehensive viability study, not to take the pilot project involving fresh foods into an operative phase”.

Rather than focus on Lidl Express, Planet Retail said that Lidl will focus on the international expansion of its current online business.
