Maina Sees Record Sales of Holiday Cakes In 2016

Italian confectionery company Maina is set for a record year with a 35% increase in sales of holiday cakes.

Compared to last year, Maina sold over 1 million more panettone and pandoro cakes. It had a significant growth in export, mainly thanks to new contracts with the US, Mexico and Canada.

The best performing segments in 2016 have been traditional products, such as the Nocciolato cake, as well as new products like the Choco Brownie panettone. This Italian interpretation of the brownie, a typical and traditional American sweet, mixes cocoa enriched with cream and dark chocolate pieces.

CEO Marco Brandani said he expects to end the year with a total production of 25 million cakes between Christmas and Easter, from both the Maina brand and private label brands.

In general, 2016 was a very important year for the company that benefitted not only from investment in the expansion and upgrading of production lines, but also from the continued modernisation and development of the plant.

A new laboratory for the study of products and a new production line for the mini format (i.e. panettone and pandoro in the 100g size) were implemented as part of the expansion, as well as a new factory store, resulting in dynamic sales.
