Management Restructure At Real Germany Sees Fleury As CEO

Didier Fleury is to take on the role of CEO of Real Germany, the group announced on Friday (10 Aug). The German hypermarket chain is bundling managment capacities and Fleury's new position is in addition to his role as head of the Real group committee and CEO of Real International.

The Frenchman has been CEO of Real International since 2008 and will take on his new role with immediate effect. “We are convinced that Didier Fleury is exactly the right man for this challenge”, said Olaf Koch, Metro AG CEO, “He is a high profile hypermarket expert with decades of international experience in different countries.”

The restructuring of management sees current CEO Roland Neuwald assume the role of COO of Real Germany, taking over from Bernd Mediger who held the position since April 2010. Mediger is to become general manager for Real Germany's real estate division.

In October, Patrick Müller-Sarmiento will join the company, taking on the role of managing director for food at Real Germany. Müller-Sarmiento has been closely involved in Real Germany's restructuring programme as senior partner and head of consumer goods and retail at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. He will replace Klaus Sauer, who held the role since 2007 and is expected to take a new position within Real parent company, METRO Group.

METRO GROUP operates around 2,200 stores in 32 countries, employing 280,000 people and reached sales of €67 billion last year. (13 Aug)
