Megamark Sees Continued Growth, Diversifies Into Pet Care
Italian regional grocery retailer Megamark Group has seen a 6.3% growth in like-for-like sales during the first half of 2017, reports Affaritaliani.it.
The result was achieved despite an average drop in like-for-like sales for the sector in Southern Italy of 2.06%, according to data from Nielsen.
Contributing to the result was strong growth in the pet care category (+12.1%), fruit and vegetables (+14.6%), and fish (+6.4%). Increasing attention to healthy lifestyles resulted in a sales boom for both organic (+54.9%) and healthy products (+21.8%).
Megamark Group continues the growth it generated in 2016 - last year’s total sales amounted to €1.25 billion, up 21.8% on 2015.
The group is now diversifying into the pet care business, with the opening of Joe Zampetti, the first store dedicated exclusively to animal products, in Bisceglie on 20 July. Another store in Bari will follow at the end of August, and two more in Apulia by the end of 2017, for a total investment of €1.5 million. The annual revenue for the first four stores is estimated at €4 million.
Megamark Group is a leading retailer in Southern Italy, with over 500 stores under the banners Dok, A&O, Famila, Iperfamila, Sole365 and Superò, located in Apulia, Campania, Molise, Basilicata and Calabria.
