Migros Unveils Expansion Plans For Zur Rose Pharmacy

Swiss retailer Migros has unveiled its plans to expand its in-store pharmacy concept, in partnership with Zur Rose.

The retailer and the pharmacy company have agreed to two further locations so far, one at the Migros Claramarkt in Basel by mid-2018, and another at the Limmatplatz store in Zurich during the second half of the year, after that store has finished its current renovation, according to Migros.

Further locations for delivery of Zur Rose's pharmaceuticals are also planned for 2018, according to the retailer.

Positive Reception

After the positive reception received for the pilot programme in Migros’ Marktgasse location in Bern last year, the retailer has decided to expand the pharmacy concept.

"The shop-in-shop pharmacies meet the growing customer demand for cross-channel shopping," the retailer said.

Zur Rose sells prescription and over-the-counter medicines in addition to a range of cosmetics. Automated storage and dispensing of products allow for a compact retail format.

Customers can order products online and pick them up in-store, or have them home-delivered. Additionally, they can collect Migros’ ‘Cumulus’ value points when buying shopping at Zur Rose.

The Migros cooperative previously announced this expansion in its annual report for 2017, which said that the retailer posted sales growth of 1% last year.

The Zur Rose partnership marked the first time for the Swiss retail cooperative to share its sales space with another retailer on a permanent basis.
