Müller Milk Announces £100m Programme To Transform Fresh Milk Business

Britain's Müller Milk & Ingredients has announced a £100m cost and margin improvement programme – Project Darwin – that will transform its business in a way that benefits consumers, employees and farmers.

The 12-month project, which is already underway, aims to simplify business, reduce costs, and further improve customer focus and accountability.

Sustainable Profitability

Chief executive Patrick Müller said, "Fresh milk is loved by British families with 96% of UK households having milk in their fridges.

"But the market environment has changed significantly due to global dairy market volatility, a decline in consumption and changes in retailing and we need to adapt and return to sustainable levels of profitability so that fresh milk can continue to be part of the fabric of British life."

Comprehensive Review

The programme involves a comprehensive review of every aspect of the dairy giant's operations including logistics, products, procurement, and people and customer relationships.

Müller added that the company is in the process of securing new long-term strategic partnerships with its customers, which will give the sector a new direction.

'Tough Decisions'

“This transformation programme will inevitably require tough decisions and a great deal of change but when Project Darwin succeeds, consumers, customers, employees, and farmers will benefit, and we can again look forward to a vibrant and progressive future," Müller explained.
