Nestlé Commits To New UN LGBTI Standards Of Conduct For Business

Swiss-based food giant Nestlé has announced its support for the UN’s LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business.

Nestlé said that, as a global and multicultural company, it is committed to promoting the inclusion of all communities into its workforce.

Diversity & Inclusion

"We strive to promote a culture of respect and equality in our workplace,” said Peter Vogt, global head of human resources. "Diversity and inclusion is an integral part of our culture, and it is one of the ways we bring our values to life."

Nestlé is raising awareness about LGBT+ and is collaborating with external networks, whilst respecting the international legislative environments which it operates in.

While it says that supporting the UN’s LGBTI Standards of Conduct is an important first step, it said that there is still more to do, and will continue to expand diversity and inclusion efforts in the company in the coming years.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, whose office released the new protocol, commented on the new standards of conduct, "If we are to achieve faster global progress towards equality for lesbian, gay, bi, trans, and intersex people, businesses will not only have to meet their human rights responsibilities, they must become active agents of change."

Nestlé recently announced that it will pay Starbucks $7.15 billion in cash for the rights to sell the US coffee chain’s products around the world.
