Nestlé Opens New KitKat Factory In Japan For Exotic Flavours

Nestlé is opening a new KitKat factory in Japan, its first in over 25 years, to cater for the growing demand for exotic varieties of the chocolate bar, reports Bloomberg.

The wafer snack bar was developed in the UK in 1935, however, Japan now has the second largest KitKat consumption in the world, and has become famous for selling unusual flavours including wasabi, matcha, green tea, and sake.

Unique Flavours

The new facility in the western city of Himeji will be dedicated to making upscale versions of the snack bar, which are popular with both locals and tourists.

"We take pride in our unique flavours and I think that makes Japan special in the KitKat world," Takuya Hiramatsu, a spokesman for Nestlé Japan, told Bloomberg.
