Lidl Ireland Planning A Total Of Ten New Store Openings In 2018

Lidl has announced that it plans to open 10 new stores in Ireland this year, as part of its ongoing expansion programme.

The new stores will be located in Fortunestown, Nenagh, Grangegorman, Sligo, Limerick, Castleknock, Birr, Belgard, Northwood and Dunshaughlin.

In addition, around €80 million is to be spent on a new distribution centre in Newbridge, which will employ around 2,000 people. Construction of the new facility will take place across three stages.

Fortunestown Reopening

The Fortunestown store, in west Dublin, opened yesterday, following a four-month redevelopment process that saw the selling space increased by 70%. The new store also adheres to strict environmental guidelines, is powered by green electricity and offers a number of electric vehicle charging points.

The unveiling of the new store means that Lidl now boasts more electric vehicle charging points than any other retailer in the Irish market, the discounter said in a statement.

The Fortunestown store originally closed in March after criminal damage was carried out on the building during Storm Emma.

"On behalf of the entire store team, Id like to extend our thanks to our loyal customer base in Fortunestown for their level of support over the past few months," commented Ruth Shanley, Lidl Fortunestown store manager. "We recognise that our service and store team have been greatly missed by the local community and we are delighted to welcome everyone back today."
