Norway: Reitangruppen, NorgesGruppen Post 2012 Revenue Growth

Norway-based retailer Reitangruppen had a successful 2012, with record sales, operating income and pre-tax profits. Net sales topped NOK 71.7 billion, up from NOK 63.8 billion in 2011, although this includes the group’s property and fuel businesses. EBITDA was NOK 3600 million and pre-tax profits struck NOK 2.042 million.

The group’s discount banner Rema 1000, which generates some 60 per cent of group net sales, performed well in 2012, with 19.5 per cent growth in Denmark. Revenues at the banner were NOK 47.5 billion, up from 2011’s NOK 42.6 billion. Its convenience arm, which expanded its network with the acquisition of 1,000 kiosks in Finland, Estonia and Lithuania during the year, delivered sales of NOK 13 billion.

Fellow Norwegian company NorgesGruppen posted a 5.9 per cent rise in net sales for 2012, amounting to NOK 62.1 billion. Operating profit was also up, rising 4.6 per cent to NOK 2.6 billion while pre-tax profits totalled by 5.2 per cent to NOK 2.3 billion. The group operates a number of grocery retail banners, including the Norwegian branches of convenience retailers Centra and SPAR. (25 March)
