Italian regional grocery retailer Novacoop has launched its first drive-in pick-up service in the Piedmont region, according to daily La Repubblica.
Coop Drive is available at the Beinasco hypermarket near Turin, the fourth location in Italy (besides L’Acquilone near Genoa, Rosignano near Livorno and Viareggio) where the nationwide cooperative has implemented the service.
A catalogue of over 10,000 products is available online and users can indicate the date and time of pick-up, 7 days a week. The goods can be collected two hours after ordering, without getting out of the car.
The president of Novacoop, Ernesto Dalle River, told daily La Repubblica that the service has been launched in Beinasco because the location receives more than four million users per year. If the trial is successful, he added, the next step will be the introduction of Novacoop's home delivery service (currently available only in Rome nationally).
The director of the Beinasco hypermarket, Roberto Patrucco, believes that Coop Drive will soon account for 0.5% of sales and 1% of turnover. In the medium and long-term, however, the goal is to reach around 4% with the gradual extension of the service across the Piedmont region.
Speaking to La Stampa, Patrucco also announced that the second drive-in will be activated in Turin by the end of the year, but will not be linked to any hypermarket; rather, it will be a standalone service.
