UK online grocer Ocado has posted a 16.4% rise in gross sales to £189.2 million for its third quarter for the 12 weeks to 11 August 2013, broadly in line with expectations.
Ocado said that the ramp up of the new warehouse in Dordon, Warwickshire was progressing well and that the company would be ready to help Morrisons launch its online business early next year.
Average orders per week rose by 15.3% to stand at 138,889, up from 120,494. The average order size also rose 1% to GBP113.54 (USD175.5). The UK pure-play online grocer’s range was also expanded during the quarter and now encompasses 33,000 SKUs.
Tim Steiner, Ocado CEO, said, “We are encouraged by the continuing momentum in sales growth, reflecting an increase in both orders and basket size."
"We remain focused on improving the proposition to customers to make it easier for consumers to shop at Ocado, from an ever-wider range, and at competitive prices. This should support further growth as the demand for online grocery shopping continues.”
