Avril Commits To Switching To 'Alternative' Eggs By 2025

French food company Groupe Avril has announced that, by 2025, all eggs and egg products offered by the company will be sourced from hens raised on French farms.

The eggs will be sourced from cage-free hens or produced through organic production methods, the company reported.

Groupe Avril will support its breeding partners in the production of these ‘alternative’ eggs, to ensure that the transition takes place smoothly.

The company is in constant dialogue with its breeding partners, taking into account their constraints and concerns while keeping in mind the changing expectations of consumers and customers.

Preserving French Livestock Farming

The move will enable the preservation of the diversity of French livestock farming.

The company has partnered with CIWF (Compassion in World Farming), an NGO dedicated to the welfare of farm animals, to achieve the goal.

Apart from the production and marketing of shell eggs, Avril will use ‘alternative’ eggs in its Ovoteam brand of egg products for agribusiness, collective catering, commercial catering, and bakery and pastry products.

It will also be used in the production and marketing of the Lesieur brand of mayonnaise, for out-of-home catering.
