Carrefour has unveiled a new green label, to indicate to customers that the animals that its meat products are made from were not fed foods containing genetically modified organisms. The 'Nourri sans OGM' label will be displayed on 300 different animal based products, such as pork, farmed fish, eggs and poultry.
The new label is a first for the supermarket industry, as GM-related labelling has previously only been in use in relation to foods that may or may not contain GM organisms.
A Carrefour spokesperson noted that the retailer's organic range was already certified as GM-free, on top of the new range of products bearing the label. (8 Nov)
