Coco-Cola and Heinz Form Sustainable Packaging Partnership

Coca-Cola and Heinz have announced that they will collaborate in a new eco-friendly packaging concept for ketchup bottles. The paring will see Heinz producing its ketchup bottles using Coke’s PlantBottle packaging. The PET material used in the packaging is made partially from renewable plant material. The design is an industry-first with the food groups hoping that the new packaging will "transform how food is packaged around the world".

Heinz will start using the PlantBottle on its 20-ounce ketchup bottles this June. The innovative packaging has been described as the biggest change in the design of ketchup bottles since it began using plastic almost thirty years ago. Heinz has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 per cent by 2015.
