Dagrofa's Local Chains Open 400th Store In Denmark

Danish retailer Dagrofa has said that its local SPAR, Min Købmand, and Let-Køb banners have reached a milestone with the opening of their 400th grocery store in the country.

Located in the village of Øster Bjerregrav in East Jutland, store number 400 is a Min Købmand outlet and the retailer described it as an example of a successful collaboration with the residents of the area.

Approximately 1,000 local residents have subscribed for shares in the store worth DKK 1.5 million, Dagrofa added.

Expansion Strategy

The launch of the new grocery stores is part of Dagrofa's expansion strategy to focus on its local chains, which have witnessed growth in recent years.

Acting chain director Kim Scheuer Nielsen said, "Developments show that some of the values we and our customers share are gaining more and more ground in society.

"Proximity combined with a locally adapted range of goods in consultation with local citizens is in demand by Danes in both urban and rural areas. With 400 stores throughout Denmark, we are proof of that."

The retailer attributed the increasing popularity of local stores to the fact that Danes like to shop at a grocery store that engages with the local community.

Store Expansion

Dagrofa has opened three SPAR grocery stores since the start of the year, with the most recent outlet located on Store Kongensgade in Copenhagen.

In the first months of the year, Min Købmand has opened two new stores, in Hylke near Skanderborg and Øster Bjerregrav, while 10 new stores have been added to the Let-Køb banner.

SPAR, Min Købmand, and Let-Køb will continue to expand their network and aim to open another 15 new stores during the year.

Brian Videbæk, development manager, said, "Consumer patterns and societal trends show us that SPAR, Min Købmand, and Let-Køb already play a large and important role in the local communities of which we are a part - and I am convinced that the potential is even greater.

"That is why we are in full swing to open new and future-proof existing stores, e.g., in close collaboration with the local citizens."
