Scandinavian packaging firms Elopak and Stora Enso have collaborated on a new carton packaging, Pure-Pak, made from natural, brown, unbleached paperboard.

The two companies say that they have created a 'naturally different, sustainable and authentic package' that meets the growing demand for ethical, ecological and organic products.

"All liquid packaging board sourced from well-managed forests is environmentally friendly, however this paperboard reaches new levels in climate responsible packaging," said Ivan Jevne, Elopak's executive vice president.

"This is not just another paperboard for our Pure-Pak cartons, but a totally new concept."

This week, Arla Foods announced that several products in its organic EKO brand in Sweden will use the new cartons.

"We believe that the new Pure-Pak carton will grab attention as it communicates organic values and is totally different to anything else in the increasingly complex chilled dairy segment," said Anna-Karin Modin Edman, sustainability manager at Arla.

The new cartons are available in one litre and 500ml sizes, and are 100% recyclable.
