Holfeld Takes Top Award at Starpack Awards

Holfeld Plastics, the Irish packaging company, has taken the Gold Star Award in the Greenstar Category at the Starpack Awards, with their ground-breaking multi application rPETeCO material. It’s the highest accolade at one of the most prestigious events in the packaging awards calendar.

Holfeld Plastics is a manufacturer of thin walled thermoformed packaging specialising in delivering sustainable and innovative packaging that focuses on increasing food safety and reducing carbon footprint using cutting edge technology. Holfeld markets red meat, poultry, fish, fresh produce, soft fruit and non food packaging to leading retailers, food processors, cosmetic manufacturers and the games industry across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Speaking about their decision to give the Gold Star award to Holfeld, Starpack judges commented, "A difficult category to judge this year with three strong contenders.  However, overall, judges felt the use of post recycled content in PET trays AND forming technology has taken the R-PET Market on, and the potential for roll out with significant tonnage, sizing and carbon savings tipped the balance."

Holfeld uses 20 per cent less waste plastic bottles in blending their rPETeCO material – one of the lowest multi-application rPET materials for the red meat, poultry, fish, soft fruit, fresh produce and non-food sectors available today. The material is perfect for the cosmetics industry where added value and product differentiation is required. Key attributes are its on shelf appearance; it has a non-plastic look and is highly tactile as well as lightweight.

rPETeCO demonstrates the same characteristics and material properties as virgin PET with excellent sealing, chill impact properties and top load performance. It is available in a range of colours and the material has been formulated to ensure it complies with the input requirements of the mixed plastics sorting and recycling facilities.
