Discounter Lidl has announced that it will introduce reusable net bags for unpacked fruit and vegetables across all outlets in Germany.

Starting 26 August, the new bags will be available for purchase in around 3,200 Lidl outlets as an alternative to knot bags.

Sustainable Option

The washable bags, priced at 49c a pair, are made of almost 100% recyclable polyester, Lidl said.

It is lightweight and can carry up to 5 kilograms of fruit and vegetables.

The initiative will help the retailer to reduce the use of single-use plastics for unpackaged fruit and vegetables.
