Nestlé Adopts Colour-Coded Labelling For Breakfast Cereals

Nestlé has announced that it will adopt the UK Government’s colour-coded labelling on its breakfast-cereal products from October. The full roll-out will be in effect by early 2018.

The traffic-light labelling system, which features red, amber and green colour-coded boxes, highlights the amount of energy, sugar, salt and fat that a product contains. It was first introduced in the UK in 2013.

Gharry Eccles, UK regional vice-present for Cereal Partners Worldwide, said that the decision to adopt the colour-coded labelling "aligns the Nestlé cereals range with what has become the common UK labelling scheme”.

"It is also in line with other Nestlé products in this market, providing consumers with a consistent approach to nutrition labelling in the UK,” Eccles continued.

Stefano Agostini, Nestlé UK & Ireland CEO, added, “It has always been Nestlé’s ambition to see the UK government scheme on all Nestlé-branded products in the UK.”

In July, Nestlé announced plans to reduce the average sugar content in its cereals by 10% before the end of 2018, following the 15% reduction that has already been implemented since 2010.
