Nestlé Opens €27m R&D Centre In Limerick In Ireland

Nestlé has announced that it has opened a new research and development centre for maternal and infant nutrition in Limerick in Ireland.

The company has invested CHF30 million (€27 million) in building and setting up the new centre.

It is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and a full pilot-scale manufacturing line to enable the development and testing of new products.

In December of last year, Nestlé Health Science inaugurated a new Product Technology Centre in Bridgewater in New Jersey.

Driving Innovation

This will help in increasing the pace of innovation for the category, which is one of Nestlé’s most important growth drivers.

The centre will focus on innovating milk-based maternal and infant products that provide essential nutrition in the first 1,000 days of life.

The WHO has recognised infant formula as the only suitable breastmilk substitute for babies who cannot be breastfed, or fed on breast milk as recommended.

The new centre, which will employ around 40 researchers, is in the same location as Nestlé’s Wyeth Nutrition manufacturing plant.

Wyeth Nutrition produces exports a range of premium milk powder products for infants, young children, and mothers.
