Nestlé Pledges To Serve More Climate-Friendly Food To Its Employees

Nestlé has announced that it plans to serve more climate-friendly food items to its employees as part of the ‘Cool Food Pledge’.

Cool Food Pledge, a movement initiated by workplaces, cities, hotels, hospitals and restaurants, aims to cut food-related greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030.

BASF, Bloomberg, Cambridge University, the City of Milan, Harvard University, IKEA, Seattle Children's Hospital, and the World Bank are already a part of this movement, Nestlé said.

Nestlé serves approximately 50 million meals annually to nearly 300,000 employees around the world.

Reduction In Emissions

The food giant will achieve a reduction in food-related greenhouse gas emissions by diversifying menus, raising employee awareness about food choices, and improving internal understanding of what ingredients to use in meals and snacks.

The company will also work with suppliers and customers to encourage them to adopt climate-friendly practices in their operations.

The pledge is part of Nestlé's broader commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from farm to fork by 2050.

Preliminary data indicates that if the current signatories of the Cool Food Pledge collectively hit the 25% reduction target by 2030, they will cut more than 1 million tonnes of CO2 emissions from food-related GHG annually, which the equivalent of taking more than 230,000 cars off the road, Nestlé added.
