Plastic Packaging Preferred By Consumers – New YouGov Survey

New research has revealed how consumers prefer tomato ketchup to be stored in plastic containers rather than glass bottles.

Of those taking part in the survey, carried out by YouGov, 75% said they would rather get their tomato ketchup out of a plastic container than out of a glass bottle.

The research surveyed 2,157 UK respondents; it found that 79% of women, compared to 74% of men, prefer to squeeze their ketchup out of a plastic bottle.

With a top-down design, the bottle sits on the cap and makes it easier for consumers to get more out of the container.

The research was commissioned by the British Plastics Federation’s Packaging Group (BPF).

The findings show the plastics packaging industry has responded to the needs and preferences of consumers of all ages, said Philip Law, director general designate of the BPF.

“Not only does plastics packaging address society’s sustainability goals, it gets the basic job done extraordinarily well – protecting the product and helping the consumer to use it easily.”
