Raisio Cuts CO2 Emissions By 75%, Aims For Carbon Neutrality By 2023

Finland's Raisio Group has announced that it has cut its CO2 emissions by 75% compared with data from the previous year.

The food group aims to achieve complete carbon neutrality by the end of 2023.

Investment In Renewable Energy

Raisio’s COO Jukka Heinänen, said, "According to the Natural Resources Institute Finland, food production and consumption account for about one-fifth of the consumers' carbon footprint.

"We continue our determined work to reduce the climate impact of our products and we have invested in renewable energy."

Bioenergy Plant

The food group's bioenergy plant, installed in 2017, has helped in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

In 2018, the company said that it continued to reap benefits from the carbon-neutral energy produced by the plant.

Energy is produced by using locally purchased wood chips, and is used in the production of a number of products including Sunnuntai flours, Torino pasta, Baltic Blend fish feeds and plant stanol ester for Benecol products.

"At the moment, of all the energy used by the Group, 90% is produced in a carbon-neutral way. We will continue our goal-oriented work towards fully carbon-neutral production," Heinänen added.

In addition to developing energy solutions for its production plants, Raisio also encourages its subcontractors to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the company said.
