REWE Offers Priority Online Delivery Service For Medical Workers

Germany’s REWE Group has introduced a priority, free-of-charge online delivery facility to help medical workers who are missing out on basic food and essential items during the coronavirus crisis.

The retailer is allowing healthcare professionals to choose preferred delivery slots for online orders and offering free of charge home delivery for the next three months.

The initiative will enable doctors and nurses to conveniently purchase groceries and household essentials online and have it delivered to their doorsteps.

CEO of REWE Group, Lionel Souque, commented, “For us, the doctors and the nurses , who work every day in these difficult times to the point of exhaustion, are real heroines and heroes.

“We would like to thank you for your tireless efforts and extraordinary commitment, and with our REWE delivery service we can at least make buying food a little easier and help in saving time.”

The Service

Medical workers can avail of the service by registering online on rewe.de/Helden and providing their ID card and proof of employment at a hospital.

Customers are then allotted a delivery slot via email, following which they can place their orders REWE's online shopping platform.

The facility will be available in more than 75 cities and metropolitan areas all over Germany, the retailer added.

The chief physician of the Medical Clinic Cologne-Holweide,  Prof Dr Arno Dormann, added that he was grateful that REWE rolled out the service “quickly and unbureaucratically”.

“Colleagues save valuable time by shopping online. In addition, they don't have to be in line in the shops. That reduces the risk of infection and reduces stress,“ he explained.
