  • Packaging giant Smurfit Kappa has introduced a range of products under its ‘Design for Help’ portfolio to help address challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company has designed corrugated workplace dividers to protect people who work closely alongside each other.

    'Rise To The Challenge'

VP of innovation and development at Smurfit Kappa, Arco Berkenbosch, said, “We are all seeing media reports about product shortages and the need for a rapid response.

"I’m very proud of our designers who were so quick to rise to the challenge of creating a suite of simple but effective products which are clear proof that corrugated is the ultimate single-use hygienic material.”

The dividers were first tested in a Smurfit Kappa plant in France before being used in other places, including a hospital complex in Navarra, Spain.

The hospital used the corrugated dividers to separate patients’ beds for hygiene and privacy.

    Other Products

Smurfit Kappa’s ‘Design for Help’ range also includes corrugated beds for temporary hospitals and isolation areas, a range of protective face masks and temporary furniture.

“The designs are all freely available for all and we will continue to add other useful solutions to our ‘Design for Help’ portfolio in the coming weeks,” Berkenbosch added.
