Rewe Group Opens New Central Warehouse In Baden

German retailer Rewe Group has announced that its new central warehouse in Kronau, Baden is now operational.

The warehouse will supply goods to around 275 Penny stores located in the south of Darmstadt to Lake Constance and the border from Luxembourg to Schwäbisch-Hall.

The facility has around 600 employees and will deliver more than 60 million shipping units annually.

It is equipped with dedicated hot and cold zones, that will help in extending the shelf life of fresh fruit and vegetables and reduce food waste.

Klaus-Peter von Nethen, head of the Penny Southwest Region, commented, “With the new warehouse, we are increasing the performance of the Penny brand in the region. At the same time, we are optimising our internal processes.”

It not only meets the latest architectural standards but also sets standards in terms of sustainability with a gold certification from DGNB, Rewe added.

The entire energy supply in the facility is provided by a photovoltaic system.

The warehouse is equipped with connections for electric cars and two silos in front of the hall serve as water storage tanks, Rewe added.
