Speculation is mounting that Pepsico is lining up a successor for CEO Indra Nooyi, following two new changes in its top management team. John Compton, head of PepsiCo Americas Food, has been made President of the company. He will be succeeded by Brian Cornell, who resigned as CEO of the Sam’s Club chain in January. Both appointments are effective immediately.
Compton, who has worked at the Group for 28 years, will be responsible for PepsiCo’s global beverages, snacks and nutrition categories as well as global strategy, operations and marketing. His heavy responsibilities have caused observers to suggest that he is being prepared to take over from Nooyi. At the Consumer Analysts Group of New York conference, Compton handled most of the company’s presentation and answered many of the questions.
Nooyi has described the changes as “essential step in PepsiCo’s journey to continue to deliver sustainable growth”. (12 Mar)
